According to reporting from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, NBA veteran center DeMarcus Cousins signed with Guaynabo Mets of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional , which is the first-tier professional men’s basketball league in Puerto Rico.
The four-time NBA All-Star was one the league’s preimenent big man and players overall, averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds before suffering a torn Achilles toward the later part of the 2017-18 season and then tore his ACL, costing him the entire 2019-20 season.
In the subsequent season, Cousins has bounced around the Association a bit. He finished the 2021-22 season with the Denver Nugget, averaging 8.9 points and 5.5 rebounds in just 13.9 minutes per contest; he picked up his production in the postseason putting 10.6 ppg in the five games he appeared in.
Cousins has shown, even in the limited minutes he has gotten post injuries, that he can still be producitve and impactful, which makes the fact he is not on a NBA roster mystifying.
His absence from the league is soemthing that Cosuins himself does not understand, saying on a March appearance on SiriusXM Radio that, “he would love to get a real answer.”
Cousins worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers in January , but was not signed.
